Farewell Celebration: Open Mic

8/25/2018

Classroom 2.0 LIVE Farewell Celebration

Date: Saturday August 25, 2018
Time: 9:00amPT/10:00amMT/
11:00amCT/12:00pm ET

Location: Blackboard Collaborate

Our Classroom 2.0 LIVE team has made the very difficult decision to discontinue our weekly webinars (see explanation below). We want to hold one final webinar this week, August 25th, so all of you who have been such an important part of our community can join us to celebrate and share memories. Our last "hurrah celebration " will be an open mic session similar to our Anniversary Celebrations. We hope all of you will join us and plan to take the mic to share your favorite memories, some of the shows that really made a difference to you with stories about how you used something you learned on Classroom 2.0 LIVE in your classrooms or professional lives. Whether you were a participant or presenter we’d love to hear your stories and take-aways from the show and the resources you learned about.

These are the questions we plan to ask on Open Mic so you can come prepared to share your thoughts and stories.
1) When did you first start joining us for our weekly webinars? Who would like to take the mic and share one of your favorite CR 2.0 memories?
2) What are some tech tools or strategies you learned about by participating in CR 2.0 Live? Please share any takeaways you have.
3) How has participating in our webinars enhanced your teaching, your connections, your “best practices”, etc.? Please share any and all ways.
4) Do you have a favorite “aha” moment from one of the webinars you’ve attended? Please share it with us.
5) Have you (or will you) ever included the CR2.0 Live webinar archives in any PD you’ve been a part of whether a face-to-face session, a virtual webinar, or an Edcamp session? 6) What free webinars, online PD opportunities, virtual conferences can you recommend to others to take part in?

The backstory to our decision:
To all of our very special friends and supporters of Classroom 2.0 LIVE, many of whom have been with us for the entire 9.5 years since we began back in 2009, we have some sad news to announce. After lots of soul searching and many conversations among our co-moderators, Advisory Team members, and Steve Hargadon, we have decided that the time has come to retire our live webinars. We have made so many great connections, both with presenters and participants, and have really enjoyed being able to provide so many outstanding, timely shows that have helped all of us to learn many ways to integrate technology into our classrooms and professional lives. While we love what we have been able to do and especially value the extensive Livebinders that continue to be a valuable resource to use and share, we have concluded that what we are doing is no longer unique and we are unable to compete with the incredible number of similar opportunities available for free for educators.

Over the past 6 months, we have been concerned that we have plateaued out with a fairly low number of participants each week and have not been able to increase the number of participants. When we invite presenters to spend their time to share their expertise and passions with us, we are disappointed that we cannot provide an audience large enough to make it worth their while. We explored many alternatives to consider what we could change. We discussed switching to an alternative platform, changing to a monthly show, shortening the show to 30 minutes, changing the day from Saturdays, changing the format to an open mic format where we would discuss topics and share resources rather than having presentations, among other things. We know it has been a challenge for new participants to struggle with the login demands of Blackboard Collaborate but that is just one of the factors. In the end, we concluded that it has been an incredible run, but that it is time for us to retire our live show. Our website, archived recordings and Livebinders will continue to be available to everyone and we know our friendships and connections with people around the world will continue.

Thank you all for being such faithful followers and supporters of Classroom 2.0 LIVE. We will treasure all of the memories! Kudos and huge thanks to our team who have worked tirelessly to provide these fantastic learning experiences for everyone!

We are thrilled to welcome three amazing, connected educators as our special guest presenters to share their passion, experiences, and resources for: "
Connecting Your Students with the World: Tools and Projects to Make Global Collaboration Come Alive, K-8" Billy, Jerry, and Paula connected to each other first online and then face-to-face at ISTE. For almost two years they met every Sunday evening in a Google Hangout with some other like-minded educators, to plan ways they could connect their students and do collaborative projects. During this webinar, you will learn how to make connections that will help you facilitate becoming a globally connected teacher and your students becoming globally connected learners. The trio will take you through starting with Mystery Location Calls, Mystery Number Calls, and other simple collaborative projects that take 15-20 minutes of time to doing more extensive collaborative projects that could last for an extended period of time. They have “been there and done it” and they even wrote a book about their experience and the projects they have done.

Bill Krakower is currently the Computer Technology Instructor, Gifted & Talented, STEAM Teacher for grades three and four. He is also a co-teacher of ELA for Special Education students at Beatrice Gilmore Elementary School in the Woodland Park Public School District in New Jersey. For the past ten years, Billy has served as Special Education Teacher, in the Inclusion setting, and Resource Room setting. Billy is the co-author of four books, "Connecting Your Students with The World," "Using Technology to Engage Students with Learning Disabilities," "140 Twitter Tips for Educators." and “Hacking Google for Education”.  @wkrakower

Paula Naugle lives in New Orleans, Louisiana where she teaches 4th graders ELA and social studies in a public school just outside of the city. She has taught for 42 years and is passionate about preparing her students for their futures as 21st-century digital citizens. While in her 4th grade her students use web tools such as Edmodo, Google Hangouts and Docs, and Seesaw. Paula is a Discovery Education STAR and member of the DEN Leadership Council of Louisiana, a Microsoft Innovative Educator, and one of the organizers for #edcampNOLA, and a host for Classroom 2.0 LIVE. @plnaugle

Jerry Blumengarten is a retired educator who taught in New York City, but he is probably best known as Cybraryman1 on Twitter. He is the curator of thousands of webpages where he says he is trying to catalog the internet for students, educators, and parents. He is passionate about helping others become connected educators. He does this through his participation in Twitter chats such as #edchat, #engsschat, #satchat, #4thchat, and more, and by keynoting around the country at conferences. Jerry is also a member of the Council of Peers of the Academy of Education Arts and Sciences and a commentator on BAM! Radio. @cybraryman1

Open Mic: Using Games in the Classroom

2/27/2016

Open Mic: Paula Naugle

Date:Saturday February 27, 2016
Time:9:00amPT/10:00amMT/
11:00amCT/12:00pm ET

Location: Blackboard Collaborate

Join us on February 27th when we will be hosting an "Open Mic" show on the topic of “Using Games in the Classroom." We are using an "Open Mic" format for this show and hope you will be as excited about it as we are. We love the Open Mic format because it provides a way for all of our participants to be actively involved in the live show. For this show there will not be a guest presenter, but we are inviting all of you to join us and take the mic to engage in a conversation or share in the chat about your favorite classroom games as a teacher. Paula Naugle will facilitate the sharing and lots of great ideas will be coming from the participants. Start thinking about ways you have used games in your classroom and come prepared to share your stories and experiences on the microphone. Think back to your fondest memories of playing childhood games whether at home or at school. Think about games like dice games, board games, card games, or games using computers or mobile devices that you have enjoyed. Have you ever created original games or modified games for new purposes? Have you challenged your students to create their own games? What are some of the most successful games you have used in your classroom?

Come with your ideas, resources, and questions and together we will learn about some great possibilities for using games in the classroom and how games support learning and social/emotional development. Paula will facilitate the conversation and we hope you'll come prepared to share something with your headset/earbuds on to take the mic and add to the conversation. We'll have an awesome Livebinder prepared with ideas for playing and creating games and will look forward to adding your resources to the Livebinder. Invite your colleagues to join us in the conversation and we'll all learn together.

Location: Blackboard Collaborate

Happy New Year! We are energized and excited to return after our winter break with our Annual Anniversary Celebration.  In this first webinar of the New Year we will be celebrating our 7th Anniversary on Classroom 2.0 LIVE as well as holding an Open Mic show on a topic all of us feel passionate about—professional development! We chose this topic because we felt it was broad enough to include everyone whether you participate in PD either f2f or virtually or provide PD opportunities.
(conferences-f2f & virtual, EdCamps, webinars, videos/blog posts, etc.)  Join us, take the mic and share your PD experiences, resources and advice about what works... what doesn't... what are some options, etc. Bring your ideas, resources, and questions! Paula Naugle will facilitate the conversation and we hope you'll come prepared to share with your headset/earbuds on to take the mic and add to the conversation. We'll have an awesome Livebinder prepared with PD resources and will look forward to adding your resources to the Livebinder.

We are looking forward to celebrating our Anniversary and to taking a few minutes at the beginning of the show to recognize our amazing 2015 special guest presenters, participants and Advisory Team members with a quick trip down memory lane with a few special memories all the way back to 2009! We are especially excited that Steve Hargadon, our founder and mentor, will be joining us to participate in the conversation!

Open Mic: Productivity Tools for Teachers

11/15/2015

Date:Saturday November 14, 2015
Time:9:00amPT/10:00amMT/
11:00amCT/12:00pm ET

Location: Blackboard Collaborate

Join us on November 14th when we will be hosting an "Open Mic" show on the topic of “Productivity Tools for Teachers." We are using an "Open Mic" format for this show and hope you will be as excited about it as we are. Our Classroom 2.0 Advisory Team member extraordinaire, Paula Naugle, suggested this concept as a way to provide even more interaction and participation in the live show. For this show only there will not be a guest presenter, but we are inviting all of you to join us and take the mic to engage in a conversation or share in the chat about your favorite productivity tools as a teacher. This will be similar to an EdCamp format where everyone comes together to explore and discuss a topic but it is being done virtually rather than face-to-face. If you’re not sure what might be considered a productivity tool, the possibilities are endless! Take a look at this amazing list of possibilities and come and share how you’re using one or several of them. https://globaldigitalcitizen.org/321-free-tools-for-teachers-free-educational-technology
Come with your ideas, resources, and questions and together we will learn about why productivity tools are helpful both in the classroom and for teacher planning and lesson preparation, what it might look like in classrooms for students of all ages (K-12 to Adult), how these tools are being used to help teachers organize and use their teaching tools to provide authentic, engaging learning experiences. Paula will facilitate the conversation and we hope you'll come prepared to share something with your headset/earbuds on to take the mic and add to the conversation. We'll have an awesome Livebinder prepared with teacher productivity resources and will look forward to adding your resources to the Livebinder. Invite your colleagues to join us in the conversation and we'll all learn together.

Date:  Saturday August 8, 2015
Time:9:00amPT/10:00amMT/
11:00amCT/12:00pm ET
Location: Blackboard Collaborate

We are so excited to have our very own Classroom 2.0 LIVE Superhero, Paula Naugle, with us today to share some of her favorite tips and tricks for Google searches and Chrome extensions. Have you wondered what Chrome extensions are and how to use them? Paula will explain what extensions are, show you how these little programs can add functions and features to your Chrome browser, and how you can personalize your browsing experience. She'll share how to find, add and manage extensions and which extensions she loves to use every day in her classroom. With so much information on the Internet, it can be difficult to sift through search results to find just the information you need - unless you know some tricks to narrowing your searches. As an additional bonus, you'll learn some Google search tips and tricks that will help you and your students search more effectively and efficiently to become a better online researcher.

Paula teaches 4th graders ELA and social studies at Bissonet Plaza, a suburban public school just outside New Orleans. She is passionate about preparing her students for their futures as 21st century digital citizens. They use web tools such as Edmodo, Skype, GlogsterEDU, kidblog.org, Google docs, and BrainPOP to do so. She presented both in person and virtually at many conferences at the state, national, and international level, including LaCUE, METC, AzTEA, TxVSN, TCEA Area 7, ISTE, and the INTEL ICT Conference. She is a Discovery STAR Educator, 2010-2011 Region 1 Educator of the Year, DEN LC, Microsoft Innovative Educator, Moderator for #4thchat #LAedchat #denchat, Edmodo Ambassador and a founding organizer of EdcampNOLA.

We are so excited to be able to offer a follow-up session to the fantastic webinar last week by Laura Candler and Francie Kugelman about DonorsChoose. In this week's show Paula Naugle and several of her colleagues from #4thchat will be sharing more DonorsChoose tips and success stories. We'd love to make this an interactive session where any of you who have experiences to share about DonorsChoose will take the mic during the show. If you missed last week's webinar with Laura Candler and Francie Kugelman on how to use DonorsChoose.org to obtain funding for your classroom projects it was loaded with great information and resources so you might want to view the recording before this week's session.

DonorsChoose is program available to all public school teachers in the United States, but using it effectively takes some know-how. Become an expert and get much-needed funds for your classroom by watching both of these webinars!

Open Mic - Blended Learning

2/15/2014

Date:  Saturday February 15, 2014
Time: 9:00a
m Pacific/10:00am Mountain/
11:00am Central/12:00pm Eastern
Location: Blackboard Collaborate

Join us on February 15th when we will be hosting an "Open Mic" show on the topic of Blended Learning. We are trying a new format for this show and hope you will be as excited as we are about it. Our Classroom 2.0 Advisory Team member extraordinaire, Paula Naugle, suggested this concept as a way to provide even more interaction and participation in the live show. For this show only there will not be a guest presenter, but we are inviting all of you to join us and take the mic to engage in a conversation about blended learning. This will be similar to an EdCamp format where everyone comes together to explore and discuss a topic but it is being done virtually rather than face-to-face.

Come with your ideas, resources, and questions and together we will learn about what blended learning is, what it might look like in classrooms for students of all ages (K-12 to Adult), how it is being used to provide authentic, engaging learning experiences, and more. Paula will facilitate the conversation and we hope you'll come prepared to share something with your headset/earbuds on to take the mic and add to the conversation. We'll have an awesome Livebinder prepared with blended learning resources and will look forward to adding your resources to the Livebinder. Invite your colleagues who are using blended learning to join us in the conversation and we'll all learn together.
