Paula Fehlinger

Date: Saturday March 24, 2018
Time: 9:00amPT/10:00amMT/
11:00amCT/12:00pm ET

Location: Blackboard Collaborate

Over the years, we have had presentations by many excellent educators who have shared their strategies and examples of global connection and collaboration with their students. In order to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world, young people need to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to engage in lifelong, cross-cultural learning and collaboration. More than ever, young people need the 21st-century skills for global competency, digital literacy, critical thinking and global collaboration among international peers. According to Anne Mirtschin, "Student's believe that they can solve the problems of the world. If we help them to develop a global network and teach them how to collaborate then they may well do so!” We are really excited to have Paula Fehlinger as our March Featured Teacher who will be sharing her stories, experiences and teaching tools for helping her students to connect globally.

Webinar Description:
Ready to break down the walls of your classroom and go global? Help students make real world connections to expand their world of learning. Learn how to use Twitter and Skype to make contacts and to participate in The Global Read Aloud, The Global Math Task Twitter Challenge and Mystery Skype Challenges on your schedule and at your own pace.

Paula Fehlinger has been with the East Penn School District for 19 years and has taught both first and second grades at Wescosville Elementary School. She received her teaching certificate from Moravian College and earned Masters Degrees in Classroom Technology, Instructional Technology and Instructional Media from Wilkes University.  Paula is a Keystone Technology Innovator Star 2016. She is currently working on becoming a Google Certified Educator. Paula is the second-grade level district leader at East Penn and serves on several committees within the district to support grading and curriculum initiatives. A Nation Without School Librarians Google Map
This map developed in March 2010, illustrates the number of school districts within the U.S. that have eliminated their certified school librarian positions.  Despite documented research that indicates the value of a certified school librarian to the academic achievement of students at all levels, the insanity continues in 2013.

Becoming a Connected Educator

11/5/2016

Craig Yen

Date:Saturday November 5, 2016
Time:9:00amPT/10:00amMT/
11:00amCT/12:00pm ET

Location: Blackboard Collaborate

Are you a teacher or administrator who has been reluctant to try using social media tools such as Twitter to connect with other educators? Have you wanted to expand your professional learning network but just didn't know how? Often it's because you haven't seen how it can help you, and you don't feel you have the time to learn with all of the many demands on your time. You aren't alone. I guarantee that  you won't want to miss this webinar with our special guest, Craig Yen. Craig  is a 5th grade teacher who teaches at Valle Verde Elementary in Berkeley, California. He is a fan of all things Edtech and enjoys learning from others and sharing this learning widely. No matter where you go on the internet (or even f2f) you will find him participating and sharing constantly with others, whether it is in EdCamps, webinars, Google Hangouts, Twitter chats, #coffeeEDUs, Mystery Skype calls, or at conferences such as CUE, ISTE and #notatiste.  He is someone who is an awesome example of a teacher who has navigated this maze and has learned tools, tips and tricks to manage it with great success (and still keep his sanity)! Within this session, you will learn what it means to be a connected educator. Tips will be given on how to manage your Twitter stream and how and where to find people to connect with. He'll also share examples of projects that will demonstrate how you can connect yourself and your students outside the classroom walls.

What do hashtags and Twitter have in common? TwitterChats, of course! If you're still trying to figure out exactly what hashtags are, what TwitterChats are, and how to make these a part of your professional learning network, join our amazing special guest, Alice Keeler, to get the scoop in this week's Classroom 2.0 LIVE show: TwitterChats: What, Why, How, When? Alice is a doctoral student at Boise State University in EdTech with a focus on gamification and has many years of experience as an ed tech leader and connected educator. Alice is a Google Certified Teacher, New Media Consortium K12 Ambassador, Microsoft Innovative Educator and LEC Admin & Online and Blended certified. She has led project teams for Google projects such as the YouTube teachers project and the Google Play for Education project. She has served on the New Media Consortium Horizon report advisory panel for both 2013 and 2014. As a believer in the importance of connectivity she founded #coffeeEDU and #profchat and is a perfect person to help us learn about the power of TwitterChats. If you participate in educational TwitterChats we hope you'll join us to share your personal favorites and your experiences as a participant. Alice tweets @alicekeeler and blogs at alicekeeler.com
