Projects By Jen and #NOTatISTE

We are really looking forward to having Jennifer Wagner with us on Saturday, March 11, 2017 to share two very exciting opportunities. As the creator of ProjectsByJen, she has been successfully encouraging teachers since 1999 to use online projects in their PreK-6 classrooms. Jennifer has hosted over 80 projects with over 1 Million participants. Six to eight projects are hosted each year each with a different theme -- literature, history, holiday celebrations, etc. Almost all the projects can be used in PreK - Sixth grade with extension ideas provided for each level. Using various ideas, she will help you understand how online projects will help you make the most of your time in a variety of ways. In addition, Jennifer will be sharing information about the #NOTatISTE community which she has organized to help educators who are unable to attend the annual ISTE Conference to be able to participate virtually through sharing of resources, activities, videos and presentations by participants.

Jennifer is an exemplary teacher and technology facilitator in Southern California and has won numerous awards for her creative ways in encouraging teachers to collaborate, her teaching style is very user-friendly, creative, and personable. Since the late 1990's, Jennifer's main focus has moved from working with students to working with teachers. She attends many local and state conferences each year, sharing ideas and also frequents many virtual conference opportunities! Plus, she has a blog, hosts a podcast, and is very happy with the invention of "pinterest". (oh, and she is quite vocal on twitter!) She is a Google Certified Teacher and a Discovery Education Guru. Jennifer has been recognized by Global SchoolNet Foundation, ISTE, Kidspiration, SIGTEL, TechMuseum, & Time Warner for her innovative uses of technology.

Kathy Cassidy-Featured Teacher

We are thrilled to have Kathy Cassidy back on Classroom 2.0 LIVE to share her amazing journey of becoming a connected educator with her students. Kathy is a grade one teacher for Prairie South Schools in Moose Jaw, SK, Canada. Since 2005, She has a classroom blog and blogs for each of her students. On the classroom blog, she shares classroom happenings through pictures and video showing what the students are learning. Her students’ blogs have developed into online portfolios, showcasing their learning in writing, reading, math, science, social studies and health. They use drawings, screencasts, podcasts and videos to help convey their ideas. They also use wikis or google docs to collect information that will help their learning. They regularly use Skype to connect with other classrooms, friends or experts who can help to answer our questions. She uses a constantly changing list of other online tools as they are appropriate in her classroom as well as Nintendo DS and recently, a class set of iPads.

Her first book, Connected From the Start: Global Learning in the Primary Grades was published in 2013. She has won several awards, including the Canadian Innovative Teacher Award from Microsoft, the Canadian Regional Award for Reading and Technology from the International Reading Association, the Kay L. Bitter Award from ISTE and a Best in Class Award from Best Buy Canada.

Donna Adams Román is a 5th grade teacher at Mill Creek School in Illinois, blogger, trainer, and presenter committed to providing rich learning opportunities for her learners and professional learning network. She is a recent recipient of ISTE’s first place SIGOL Online Learning Award (2013) and a Microsoft Innovative Expert Educator. Donna is active in Professional Development online and in her district, CoSN, ISTE, and iEARN.

Educators are pulled in so many constantly changing directions. Donna will discuss how we can address these obligations while providing deep and meaningful learning experiences, not only for our students, but for ourselves as well. Suggestions to work smarter by condensing and combining, that in turn can deepen teaching, learning, and our lives while we engage fully in the process. 21st Century Learning, Project Based Learning, and Technology will be the common languages.

Building 21st Century Classrooms with the Common Core

Join Tracy Watanabe (Tech Integration Specialist and Instructional Coach), Jon Castelhano (Director of Technology) and a team of amazing 3rd grade teachers from Apache Junction, AZ to learn about the fantastic ways they are integrating technology and connecting globally in their classrooms.

Common Core learning standards, 21st century learning, global collaborations, and project-based learning (PBL) go hand-in-hand. During this webinar, we will present how the four of these complement each other in the classroom; and how the teacher, Common Core coach, Technology Integration Specialist, and Technology Director can nurture that 21st century, student-centered learning environment.

During this webinar, we'll explore the depth of the Common Core Reading, Writing, and Speaking and Listening Standards that takes place in 21st century learning, through the examples shared throughout the session. We'll also investigate the evidence of success through district-level data, learning artifacts, and student reflections.

Webinar participants will hear and share resources, ideas, and guides for how to build 21st century, student-centered classrooms that focus on learning standards. These solutions are replicable in other classrooms around the globe.
