Remind
Date:  Saturday August 29, 2015
Time:9:00amPT/10:00amMT/
11:00amCT/12:00pm ET
Location: Blackboard Collaborate

With school already back in session in the U.S. for many (and very soon for others), a high priority for teachers and administrators is how they can best reach out to their parents and school community to establish effective communication. We are very excited to be able to feature Remind.com in this week's webinar as an exciting tool to support this all-important task! In this webinar, Jordan Pedraza from Remind, and a panel of educators, will share best practices and stories of how teachers, students, and library staff can leverage Remind as a tool for learning, communication, and collaboration.
Huge thanks to our panel for sharing their experiences with us!
  • Sean Gaillard - Principal, John F Kennedy HS, Winston-Salem, NC
  • Anthony Silk - Teacher, The Harker School, San Jose, CA
  • Tiffany Kannengieszer - Teacher, William Penn HS, New Castle, DE
They'll provide an overview and discussion for using Remind in the classroom and beyond. Actively used in 50% of U.S public schools, and named a 2015 AASL Best App for Teaching & Learning, Remind is a free communication tool that helps teachers connect with students, parents, and staff. Remind helps school communities deepen relationships and engagement through instant and safe communication through text and mobile app messages. Whether you’re sending announcements to the entire school community or chatting with a small group of students or teachers, Remind can help you extend and deepen learning experiences for all.

Date:  Saturday August 22, 2015
Time:9:00amPT/10:00amMT/
11:00amCT/12:00pm ET
Location: Blackboard Collaborate

We are thrilled to welcome Valerie Burton back on Classroom 2.0 LIVE to share some of her valuable tips and tools for student responses to reading that help teachers assess their learning.
Webinar description:

They've been reading closely... now what?
We have given them the tools to be able to annotate, decode vocabulary and analyze the text on a variety of levels. Now it's time to allow them to show what they know. Assessment can be so much more than bubbling in an answer document. This session will explore some of the many different ways that students can create products that allow us to assess the knowledge gained.
Have them create and produce:
  • Memes with the same overall message of nonfictional text.
  • NoteCard Confession video that explores the overall theme of a fictional text.
  • WordArt that highlights the character's motivating actions
  • Paperslide videos that retell a nonfictional text
  • Blackout Poems that remix the text and examine language used
  • Six word memoirs or 4x4 responses
  • ePortfolios (website, blogs, Padlet, Smore, etc.) to display artifacts and essays
There is no limitation to what they can create and we should embrace that.

Valerie is an English I teacher from West Jefferson High School, New Orleans, Louisiana.  She is also the Department Head and winner of the May, 2009 Exemplary 21st teaching and learning contest! A contest sponsored by Jefferson Parish’s Technology Department
Her philosophy is to provide an inquiry-based atmosphere in her classroom.  In her English I class she uses project based learning and technology to make learning enjoyable for all.  Because her students have a variety of strengths, weakness and learning styles, she designs each lesson so that it is diversified enough so that all students are able to succeed. There are three elements that she believes are conducive to establishing such an environment, (1) the teacher acting as a guide, (2) allowing the child’s natural curiosity to direct his/her learning, and (3) promoting respect for all things and all people.

Paula Naugle
Date:  Saturday August 8, 2015
Time:9:00amPT/10:00amMT/
11:00amCT/12:00pm ET
Location: Blackboard Collaborate

We are so excited to have our very own Classroom 2.0 LIVE Superhero, Paula Naugle, with us today to share some of her favorite tips and tricks for Google searches and Chrome extensions. Have you wondered what Chrome extensions are and how to use them? Paula will explain what extensions are, show you how these little programs can add functions and features to your Chrome browser, and how you can personalize your browsing experience. She'll share how to find, add and manage extensions and which extensions she loves to use every day in her classroom. With so much information on the Internet, it can be difficult to sift through search results to find just the information you need - unless you know some tricks to narrowing your searches. As an additional bonus, you'll learn some Google search tips and tricks that will help you and your students search more effectively and efficiently to become a better online researcher.

Paula teaches 4th graders ELA and social studies at Bissonet Plaza, a suburban public school just outside New Orleans. She is passionate about preparing her students for their futures as 21st century digital citizens. They use web tools such as Edmodo, Skype, GlogsterEDU, kidblog.org, Google docs, and BrainPOP to do so. She presented both in person and virtually at many conferences at the state, national, and international level, including LaCUE, METC, AzTEA, TxVSN, TCEA Area 7, ISTE, and the INTEL ICT Conference.
