Our special guest today will be the one and only Vicki Davis! We are so excited to have Vicki (@coolcatteacher) share some of her best advice about reinventing writing with a sneak preview of all of the amazing resources and information that will be coming out in her new book. She will share the highlights of what she does with her students to teach these 9 types of tools and to build community among writers with tons of best practices. Nine tools have changed writing, learning, and living forever. Her book, Reinventing Writing, is written for any teacher using or trying cloud documents with students. She will talk about how to select the right tool for teaching purposes, how to set it up quickly, and how to prevent common mistakes. This has never been easier, more convenient, and more important than right now.

Vicki was named one of “Twitter’s Top 10 Rockstar teachers” by Mashable and included in Thomas Friedman’s book, the World is Flat. We are so excited to have Aaron to help us wind down the school year and ramp up our motivation as our awesome May Featured Teacher! Aaron Maurer, known as Coffeechug, is a former gifted education teacher for Bettendorf Middle School in Iowa and is currently an Instructional Coach for the district. He was also a 6th grade social studies and literacy teacher prior to that. But his day doesn't end there...after school he is a First Lego League Robotics coach, boys/girls basketball coach, and runs intramural football for 6th grade. Aaron was an Iowa Teacher of the Year Finalist for 2014 and is a member of the LEGO Education Advisory Panel. He advocates and operates several global projects and communications with students all over the world.

Aaron  and his students shared some of the amazing things he is doing with his students and teachers and three of his many passions: (1) STEM and the Power of Play, Tinkering, and Coding (including things beyond curriculum with after school programs, bringing students in to tinker and develop, and some of his current projects with robotics, Arduino, and Young Engineers of Today); (2) Student Voice, his heart and soul, where students are part of project tunings, and a student group called Iowa High Five (a group of students whose mission is to educate and inspire youth to reach their full potential as leaders) and (3) PBL which is being implemented school-wide in his middle school of 1100 students that incorporates a process called project tunings.

We are very excited to have two special guests, Dawna Hatcher and Tina Schneider, joining us for a terrific presentation on the topic of "Bully Binder, Memes and Livebinders." Dawna created a fantastic Livebinder for her students to guide their learning on the topic of bullying through the use of memes. She made it public with an intro to teachers inviting them to copy her binder and use/modify it for their own students and it already has close to 7500 views on the Livebinders site. She will be sharing how she created her Livebinder, how she implemented the project along with many resources for dealing with bullying and tips she learned along the way. Tina Schneider, co-founder of Livebinders will join us to share some of the wonderful new features that have been added to Livebinders and ways you can be using them in your classroom and as learning resources with other teachers. Dawna teaches Language Arts/Writing Enrichment to 6th, 7th and 8th graders in Dacula Middle School, in the Gwinnett County Public Schools in Georgia.

We're really sorry but this webinar wasn't recorded during the live session. We have re-recorded the presentations by both Dawna and Tina and both parts of the recording have been combined into one video recording (mp4) and one audio recording (mp3). The full chat transcript is provided from the live webinar.

eduCanon - Interactive Video Lessons

5/3/2014

Date:  Saturday May 3, 2014
Time: 9:00a
m Pacific/10:00am Mountain/
11:00am Central/12:00pm Eastern
Location: Blackboard Collaborate

We are excited to have Swaroop Raju, eduCanon Co-Founder to introduce us to this amazing teaching resource!
eduCanon is an online learning environment to build and share interactive video lessons. Teachers begin with any YouTube, Vimeo, or TeacherTube video content (screencasts, Khan Academy, Minute Physics, TED, NOVA, etc.) and transform what is traditionally passive content into an active experience for students. By time-linking activities that students engage with as the video progresses the content is segmented into digestible components - increasing student engagement and, through our real-time monitoring, informing the next day’s lesson planning.  Teachers have used the eduCanon interface in class as a blended tool, assigned students an eduCanon lesson as homework in a flipped setting, and even asked students to create their own eduCanon lesson as a higher-Bloom's project! eduCanon is flexible to suit the resources and teaching style of your classroom. eduCanon is a web app that works on all major browsers. It works on Macs, PCs, and is even responsive to iPads. You can even embed it into your website or blog!
They know how important it is to keep resources for teachers affordable. eduCanon was founded and created by teachers; they are committed to keeping everything you see on the site - including the ability to embed multiple choice questions into the YouTube of your choosing, assign it to your students, and get a question-by-question breakdown of student performance - 100 % free.
