We are really looking forward to hearing from our special guest, Sam Gliksman, on our show this week. Sam Gliksman is the author of 'Creating Media for Learning' and he has some great tips and tools to share with us for designing student-centered projects! Mobile devices are redefining the nature of our everyday interactions and media creation has become part of our everyday language. If communication is the heart of education then media creation can and should be utilized for deeper and more effective learning. In this webinar we'll look at how to design student-centered projects that use formats such as video, animation, eBooks and more. If you have a mobile device Sam would like you to download the free DAQRI app prior to the webinar so you will be prepared to experience how it works.

Date:  Saturday October 17, 2015
Time:9:00amPT/10:00amMT/
11:00amCT/12:00pm ET

Location: Blackboard Collaborate

We are very excited to have Jennifer Garcia joining us as our special guest presenter on Saturday, October 17,  for her presentation: "Green Screens + iPads = iMagic!" She will be sharing projects her students have done using green screens on the iPads with DoInk's Green Screen App. We'll get a guided tour of the entire process including setup, equipment, apps, workflow, assessment strategies and possible issues to be aware of. We'll also get to see a few examples of her student work and have access to the online lessons she created to help you in building your own projects. We'll also get to see some examples from other teachers along with their resources. This will be most beneficial to teachers who have access to iPads in their classrooms, but it's always exciting to learn about tools, apps and the possibilities for enhancing digital story telling with any tools you may have access to and we would welcome participants willing to share the tools and project examples for digital storytelling projects you are using in your classrooms.

Location: Blackboard Collaborate

Today our special guest is Toni Plourde! Toni Plourde, Educational Assistant, Livingstone Range School Division, Alberta, Canada

Earning Your Learning: iPad Apps and Accessibility
Using the iOS 7 for iPad(iPod,iPhone), we will explore ways to maximize the way students can engage and enhance  their own learning. Students engage in content creation , with the mantra "Earning your learning", by a variety of iPad apps and accessibility features. Supporting students to create their own social stories, listen to their own e-books, engage in ed-gaming and more will encourage independent life-long learning and skills.

About Toni:
This transplanted Texan is a tech geek that wants to see the best of tech help the struggling learner. Our 21st century learners have more than games to play; they have tools to tutor themselves and grow their expertise. I've been involved in special needs one to one mentoring/assisting 12 years in our school division guiding students from ages 3 to 15 with autism, Down syndrome, and cerebral palsy including 4 years experience with the iPad helping these visual learners succeed. My favorite quote is "Education Is Not the Filling of a Pail, But the Lighting of a Fire" I say,"Let the pyromania begin!"

Felix Jacomino-The Many Facets of Technology Integration

We are so excited to be joined by Felix Jacomino as our special guest presenter to hear about his experience and leadership with integrating technology in his 1:1 iPad initiative at St. Stephen's Episcopal Day School in Coconut Grove, Florida. He is also the creator and host of Miami Device, a mobile learning event presented by his school in November of 2014.

Technology used to be synonymous with a stand-alone computer, in a lab, with a schedule for students to go and learn about its parts, history, and use them at the lowest level of the SAMR model. Today, we're starting to leave 1:1 behind and talking X:1 because of ubiquitous presence of mobile devices in every part of our lives. Just because we have a lot of devices though, does not mean they are used the best ways possible. And sometimes, that can mean putting them aside.

Effective, ongoing, and quality professional development is the key to an environment where students are empowered by enthusiastic teachers who are mentors and well-aware of the endless ways these tools can be leveraged to best meet each student's goals.

"The introduction of iPads has engaged and enthused staff and learners. Whether teachers have access to one or thirty iPads they can make learning multi-dimensional, enabling students to move from effective research, to improving their presentation skills, and (most important of all) creating. With apps to cover every area of Bloom's Taxonomy iPads are helping to develop workplace skills."
