IWitness-Kori Street
Date:  Saturday March 21, 2015
Time:9:00amPacific/10:00am Mountain/11:00amCentral/12:00pm Eastern
Location: Blackboard Collaborate

Whether you teach these issues/subjects in your MS/HS classrooms or you would like to learn more about genocide and the Holocaust, you will definitely want to join us for this very informative webinar on IWitness with Kori Street, Director of Education for IWitness.

On the IWitness platform you will find 1,450 full-length testimonies of survivors of the Holocaust and other genocides. Specific lessons are built around short clips of testimony and mini documentaries summarizing big concepts, such as Fighting in the Face of Racism or The Power of Words. Students are asked to use these videos as a basis for writing short reflections, creating word clouds, or producing their own multi-media essays using the built-in IWitness video editor. All the activities are carried out and stored on the secure online platform. Kori will provide a basic overview of the IWitness site and resources and ways they can be used in the classroom.

Although she “speaks techie,” Avra translates tech-talk into plain English helping all learners walk away with practical strategies for immediate classroom implementation.
Avra is a huge proponent of digital publishing for students and teachers.  She believes that creating a positive digital footprint from an early age is an important piece of citizenship.  Avra will share a wide variety of tools that she uses to help students and teachers create digital portfolios. She believes that digital portfolios are a KEY to success because they allow teachers and students to reflect positively on their technology adventures while they collect, curate, and showcase their work.  TACKK, Google Drawings, MoveNote, ThingLink, and Blogger will be introduced with student examples shared. Avra will also introduce Google Sites as a powerful platform for those students and teachers who are ready for a more robust sharing platform.

Livebinders is such a powerful tool for teachers and students and we are always excited when we are able to share exemplary practices with the use of Livebinders! This week we have an amazing team of librarians and Tina Schneider, Livebinders co-founder, joining us to share their S.U.P.E.R. Livebinder (Sharing Useful Professional Electronic Resources Supporting Common Core State Standards) with tips on how we can use Livebinders to organize our resources to help teachers address Common Core standards. S.U.P.E.R. is a collection of digital resources organized to reflect the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts. This collection not only provides a list of educational digital resources but also functions as a beginning template which teachers can easily duplicate, personalize, and maintain themselves.
ILeadU SUPER Team
These resources were located, gathered and are curated by five school librarians participating in the 2014 ILeadU initiative: Marcia Brandt, Rachele Esola, Katie Hauser, Mary Jo Matousek, Mindy Perry and Advisor, Donna Schaal. ILEAD U is a Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian grant program, which began in 2010 with funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), and the Secretary of State/Illinois State Library.

Students often need help in developing their study habits. Today we are going to talk about some learning theories, tips, and technology that can help students take charge of their personal study time. We will explore the four types of subjects and look at theories and tech tools that work great with each one.About Tammy: Besides being the fantastic co-moderator for all of our Classroom 2.0 LIVE shows where she faithfully provides closed-captioning for every show, Tammy is an incredibly knowledgeable, talented, creative ed tech enthusiast. Tammy lives in Arkansas and is a Course designer/developer, teacher, trainer, admin at VHSG and an artist, mom, volunteer using Blackboard Collaborate, Moodle, VoiceThread, Cmap, and Adobe eLEarning Suite with a course co-operative called the Virtual Homeschool Group  Tammy has spearheaded the development and growth of this co-operative that has the purpose of getting professional grade tools for e-learning out to people that want to offer a free online course for home school students. Her project uses Moodle as an LMS and Blackboard Collaborate for their live, online classroom. As an example of the exciting work that Tammy does check out her earlier presentation on Classroom 2.0 LIVE where she demonstrated how to create our own interactive lessons and games for the computer and iPad for and with our kids using Adobe Captivate ( a tool that will let us make lesson presentations, cool interactive activities and games, software how-tos, screen recordings, self-scoring quizzes (you can even set them up to post the grades automatically to an LMS), and more.
We are excited to have Tammy Moore back to present for us on some of the wonderful student study tools she has discovered, uses and recommends to her virtual home school students and teachers.
